Remote Senior Brand Strategist

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

You will work across both the long and short term: helping define where the Airbnb brand should move over the next three to five years while shaping the briefs, positioning, and strategic narratives that drive the business today.

You will partner closely with Advertising, Marcom, Regional Marketing, Consumer Insights, Media, Product Marketing, and Creative to identify the insights and messages that should shape Airbnb’s external narrative. You will remain closely involved throughout creative development, helping teams protect the core idea, sharpen the storytelling, and make the work simpler, more distinctive, and more effective.

Writing is central to this role. You will be expected to produce briefs, strategic narratives, positioning frameworks, presentations, and points of view that are concise, persuasive, and creatively inspiring. You should be able to take a large amount of information, find the underlying truth, and write it in a way that makes the path forward feel clear.

This role requires someone who can move fluidly between systems-level thinking and hands-on creative partnership. You bring a genuine consumer perspective into every room, stay calm and decisive amid ambiguity, and know how to create clarity when priorities are moving quickly.

You should also have a current and instinctive understanding of culture, media, and social platforms—not simply as channels, but as environments with their own behaviors, creative codes, and forms of participation. You understand how ideas travel, how they change across contexts, and how a brand can participate in culture without feeling forced or derivative.

The Difference You Will Make:

The Senior Brand Strategist shapes how Airbnb’s brand shows up in the world—from the long-term positioning of the company to the campaigns, product launches, and cultural moments that bring the brand to life.

This is a senior strategy role for an exceptional thinker and writer. You will turn consumer insight, business priorities, and cultural signals into clear, compelling strategic points of view. Your writing must be sharp enough to clarify complex problems, align senior leaders, and inspire creative teams to make their best work.

The right person combines rigorous strategic thinking with strong creative instincts. They can see the larger system, identify the essential idea, and express it simply.

A Typical Day:

  • Partner with the Director of Brand Strategy to define where the Airbnb brand should move over the next three to five years.

  • Develop clear, persuasive strategic points of view that align senior leaders and cross-functional teams.

  • Write creatively inspiring briefs that guide advertising and brand development across traditional, digital, social, and emerging media.

  • Translate complex research, cultural signals, and business priorities into simple, actionable consumer insights.

  • Help define product and portfolio positioning, partnering with Marcom and cross-functional teams to shape go-to-market strategy.

  • Bring a sharp, current perspective on culture, media, and social behavior into brand and campaign strategy.

  • Stay embedded with creative teams throughout the development of global campaigns and product launches.

  • Evaluate creative work against the strategy and help teams make it more focused, distinctive, and effective.

  • Build compelling strategic narratives and presentations for senior leadership.

  • Help raise the standard of strategic thinking and writing across the broader marketing organization.

Your Expertise:

  • 10+ years of experience leading brand strategy, either in-house or at a leading creative or brand strategy agency.

  • Exceptional writing ability, with a demonstrated track record of producing clear, concise, persuasive, and creatively inspiring strategy.

  • Experience developing brand positioning, campaign strategy, creative briefs, and strategic narratives.

  • Experience partnering closely with creative teams across advertising, design, media, and other cross-functional disciplines.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience translating quantitative and qualitative research into actionable insight.

  • Strong cultural and social fluency, with a clear point of view on how brands earn attention, relevance, and credibility today.

  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, including experience influencing senior leaders.

  • The ability to simplify complex problems and create clarity in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

    • Preferred Expertise:

      • Experience in consumer technology, travel, design, lifestyle, or other culturally influential brands.

      • A genuine passion for travel and for Airbnb; hosting experience is a strong plus.

      • An integrated marketing mindset and experience shaping storytelling across multiple channels and markets.

      • A strong visual sensibility and an understanding of how strategy translates into creative expression.

      • A track record of bringing cross-functional teams together around a single, motivating strategic idea.

      • Strong judgment, intellectual curiosity, and close attention to detail.

      • A generous and low-ego working style that builds trust across functions and levels.

      • An active curiosity about culture: you notice what is gaining energy, what is losing relevance, and why—and bring that perspective into the work before anyone has to ask.
