You look for ways to improve how work is delivered, contributing to stronger outcomes for both projects and the firm.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>POSITION OVERVIEW</strong> </p><p>The<strong> Interior Designer | Design Development </strong>is responsible for leading the design development phase of commercial interior projects, translating approved concepts into fully resolved, coordinated, and buildable design solutions. This role focuses on developing cohesive, well-coordinated design solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, budget, and constructability for commercial projects. Working closely with the Design Development team and consultants, the<strong> Interior Designer | Design Development</strong> ensures the successful delivery of high-quality Design Development packages that seamlessly transition in construction documentation. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy and accountability and plays a critical role in upholding design excellence and technical rigor across the firm’s portfolio.</p><p><br></p><p>The<strong> Interior Designer | Design Development</strong> will work independently and collaborate closely with multiple design team members to ensure the successful completion of the design development phase. Success in this role is defined by design leadership, clarity of documentation, proactive coordination, strategic problem-solving, efficient communication, consistency, thoroughness and the ability to guide projects toward cohesive and executable design solutions.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p><p><br></p><p><em>GENERAL </em></p><ul><li>Collaborate effectively with team members to support cohesive project execution</li><li>Comply with company templates, design process and presentation standards</li><li>Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously </li><li>Communicate and present to clients </li><li>Create, build and maintain professional relationships with current and perspective clients</li></ul><p><br></p><p><em>DESIGN DEVELOPMENT</em></p><ul><li>Lead the development and refinement of interior design concepts through Design Development and handoff to Construction Documentation and FF+E</li><li>Ability to bring abstract and creative ideas to life with the RFQ development as well as be able to track and maintain quotes and details of custom finishes, lighting, etc.</li><li>Produce and coordinate alongside Design Development drawings including space planning, design plans, elevations, sections, detailed interior assemblies, and design narrative</li><li>Direct finish palettes, material specifications, and lighting concepts, ensuring consistency with brand standards and project intent</li><li>Evaluate design decisions for constructability, cost implications, durability, and long-term performance</li><li>Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, MEP, lighting, low voltage, fire protection, and specialty consultants to ensure fully integrated design solutions</li><li>Identify and resolve design conflicts early through proactive coordination and technical review</li><li>Lead value-engineering and design optimization efforts while preserving design intent</li><li>Create design development packages for accuracy, completeness and readiness for construction documentation.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or related field required  </li><li>At least 5 years of commercial design firm experience required</li><li>AutoCAD and Sketchup experience required</li><li>Deep knowledge of materials, manufacturers, and commercial interiors standards</li><li>Strong understanding of commercial building codes, ADA, and life safety requirements as they relate to Design Development</li><li>Bluebeam, Google Workspace, Procore, Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred</li><li>Multi-family and/or hospitality experience preferred</li><li>High attention to detail and accuracy </li><li>Creative problem solving skills</li><li>Collaborative, adaptive and growth mindset</li><li>Exceptional communication, organization, time management, and follow-through</li><li>Ability to work autonomously, make informed decisions, and manage competing priorities</li><li>Flexible, resourceful, and committed to continuous improvement</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</strong></p><ul><li>Ability to stand, walk, or be on feet for extended periods during site visits</li><li>Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50–60 lbs as needed </li><li>Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform light physical tasks required during site visits </li><li>Comfortable working in active jobsite environments, which may include dust, noise, varying temperatures, use of on-site portable restrooms, or uneven surfaces</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS </strong> </p><ul><li>Annual Required Travel: ~20-40 days to go to project site visits both instate and out of state (currently Southeast/Mid Atlantic and Southwest), plus 7-15 days for company events and conferences, as needed</li><li>Must live within an hour’s drive of a major airport</li><li>Must be comfortable traveling by air for projects located more than a 3 hours drive</li><li>Must have a valid driver's license and maintain appropriate auto insurance coverage in accordance with company guidelines</li><li>Must have access to reliable personal vehicle available for travel to project sites and company-related events</li><li>Ability to transport, by vehicle, samples, or project materials, as needed</li></ul>
