Forward Deployed Engineer, AI

About Supermove

Supermove builds software and AI for moving companies. We've raised $30M from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and other investors.

We started in 2019 as the system that runs a moving business: sales, operations, crews, billing. Today that system runs moving companies across the US, Canada, and Australia, from single-location movers to some of the largest van lines and franchise systems in North America.

Now we're putting AI to work on top of it. Our Voice Agents answer and call leads, book moves, and hand off to a person at the right moment. Autopilot, our agent platform, goes further. It understands what's happening across a business, flags what needs attention, and executes work that previously required employees to handle manually.

We're building AI that doesn't just assist employees. It takes on real operational work.

The Role

We're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to build and deploy AI agents for some of the largest moving companies in North America.

You'll work directly with customers to understand their operations, design and implement AI workflows, write production code, and get agents working reliably in the real world.

You'll be both deploying our AI products and building them.

Some problems can be solved through configuration and prompting. Others require new integrations, changes to our agent architecture, better tooling, or entirely new product capabilities. You'll be expected to make those changes directly in our codebase, working alongside our core engineering team.

You'll own deployments from initial discovery through go-live and ongoing improvement, working closely with customer executives, operations teams, implementation managers, and Supermove engineers.

One day you might be onsite with a customer understanding how their call center operates. The next, you're writing code to improve how our agents handle complex workflows, debugging tool calls, or building evaluations to identify why an agent failed.

Enterprise moving is complicated. A single customer can have hundreds of locations, several disconnected systems, and different processes across branches. Getting AI to work reliably in that environment is a difficult engineering problem.

We want engineers who enjoy working directly with customers, figuring out what needs to be built, and shipping it.

What You'll Do

  • Build and improve our AI agents. Write production code to extend our Voice Agent and Autopilot platforms. Improve agent capabilities, tool integrations, workflow execution, reliability, and performance.

  • Own enterprise AI deployments. Work directly with customers to understand their operations, design solutions, and take agents from initial configuration through production rollout and optimization.

  • Design and implement AI workflows. Translate real business processes into agent behavior, tools, integrations, and human handoffs. Determine what can be handled through configuration versus what requires new engineering.

  • Debug and optimize agents in production. Analyze call transcripts, execution traces, tool calls, and customer data. Identify failure modes, improve prompts and code, build evaluations, and measure whether your changes actually work.

  • Build integrations and technical solutions. Connect Supermove's agents with customer systems, APIs, and third-party platforms. Work across the stack to solve deployment problems and extend product capabilities.

  • Turn customer needs into reusable product features. Identify patterns across deployments and build improvements that benefit more than one customer. Work closely with product and engineering to make our platform more powerful and easier to deploy.

  • Drive deployments and customer outcomes. Own technical delivery, coordinate with implementation managers and other teams, lead onsite working sessions, and ensure customers achieve measurable business results.

  • Work directly with customer leadership. Explain technical decisions, understand business requirements, manage tradeoffs, and build trust with everyone from executives to frontline operators.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience. You've built, shipped, and maintained production software. You're comfortable working in an existing codebase, debugging complex systems, and independently delivering features.

  • Strong engineering fundamentals. You're proficient in at least one modern programming language, comfortable with APIs, databases, integrations, and backend systems, and able to work across the stack when needed.

  • Experience building with AI. You've worked with LLM APIs, agents, tool calling, or AI-powered applications. You understand the challenges of making nondeterministic systems reliable, and you're comfortable working with prompts, evaluations, and agent workflows.

  • Product-minded problem solving. You don't just implement requirements. You understand the underlying problem, design practical solutions, and think about how your work can scale beyond a single customer.

  • Comfort working directly with customers. You can lead technical discovery, explain complex systems clearly, and translate ambiguous business requirements into working software.

  • Strong ownership and execution. You can manage competing priorities, work independently, and drive complex projects to completion. When something breaks, your instinct is to investigate and fix it.

  • Ability to operate across technical and business contexts. You're as comfortable discussing architecture with an engineer as you are explaining business impact to a CEO or COO.

Experience with voice AI, real-time systems, agent frameworks, or enterprise integrations is a plus. Experience in moving, logistics, or field services is helpful but not required.

Why This Role Matters

We're moving from AI that answers questions to AI that actually runs business operations.

Our largest customers are where that transition gets proven. They operate across hundreds of locations, with complex workflows, legacy systems, and thousands of employees. Building AI that works reliably in these environments will shape what our entire platform becomes.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll be on the front lines of that work. You'll see firsthand where agents succeed and fail, write the code to make them better, and turn what you learn into product capabilities that scale across our customers.

You'll work directly with our CEO, engineering, and product leadership, with substantial ownership over both customer deployments and the evolution of our AI platform.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? 2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...
