About UPS & Our Culture

Part-time work at most employers means part-time pay and no benefits. Part-time work at UPS means a Teamsters union wage, full family medical insurance, a pension, and a tuition program — on 17 to 25 hours per week. Our part-time package handler jobs have been structured this way for decades because the Teamsters national master agreement mandates genuine benefit access for part-time associates — and that contractual mandate is the single most compelling reason our part-time workforce has dramatically lower turnover than any comparable employer in the logistics market. If you have been searching for part-time package handler jobs near me with real benefits rather than a benefits-eligible-after-1,000-hours footnote, UPS is the only large employer in package logistics that delivers what that search actually intends to find.

What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)

"I researched every part-time warehouse option in this city before choosing UPS and the benefit package difference is not subtle — it is enormous. My Teamsters medical plan costs less than 20 percent of what individual market insurance would cost me, my pension statement shows a real and growing balance, and the Earn & Learn program deposited $5,250 directly toward my tuition last calendar year. I work 22 hours per week, I am in class the rest of the time, and UPS is funding both. There is no part-time package handler job in this market that competes with this combination." - Current Part-Time Package Handler, Boston, MA.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

As a UPS Part-Time Package Handler, you work a structured 3.5 to 5 hour sort shift inside our package center — choosing from multiple daily shift windows including the preload (4:00 AM), day sort (9:00 AM), twilight (5:00 PM), or night sort (10:30 PM) — and executing the core sort, load, and unload functions that keep the UPS delivery network running on its daily schedule.

  • Shift Window Selection & Scheduling: Select your preferred shift window from UPS's available sort options — preload for early-morning availability, twilight for evening availability after daytime commitments, or night sort for maximum overnight differential earnings — and maintain consistent availability on your selected shift, which is the single most important factor in building the Teamsters seniority that unlocks better route assignments, preferred vacation weeks, and promotion consideration over time.
  • Core Sort Function Execution: Execute your assigned sort function — loading, sorting, or unloading — at the production rate and accuracy standard that UPS's engineered work measurement system establishes for your specific function, building speed through repetition during the first 30 to 60 days until you reach the full-speed proficiency level at which the shift becomes manageable rather than overwhelming.
  • Teamsters Benefits Enrollment: Complete Teamsters union benefits enrollment during your first weeks of employment — activating medical, dental, and vision coverage for yourself and eligible dependents through the Teamsters Health & Welfare Fund, registering for the UPS Earn & Learn tuition program through the UPS HR portal, and confirming your pension contribution start date with the local Teamsters union representative assigned to your building.

Benefits & Perks

UPS Part-Time Package Handlers receive full Teamsters medical, dental, and vision benefits available to you and eligible dependents on a part-time schedule — one of the rarest combinations in American part-time employment. A defined-benefit pension, paid personal days, Earn & Learn tuition assistance up to $25,000 total, and weekly direct-deposit paychecks complete a part-time benefit package that no comparable employer in the package logistics industry comes close to matching.
