Admissions Essay Reviewer/Teacher (Remote)

American Study helps students, primarily from Vietnam, apply to top universities, graduate programs, and medical schools in the United States. Our essay team includes graduates of Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, and the University of Pennsylvania, and we have supported thousands of students per year through the application process. We're looking for skilled writers, editors, and admissions professionals to help students tell their stories clearly and authentically.

As an Essay Reviewer, you'll give students detailed written feedback on their application materials, along with live coaching when needed. Your job is to help each student sharpen their own ideas and voice, not to write for them. Most of our students are non-native English speakers applying to undergraduate, graduate, and medical programs.

Responsibilities

  • Review drafts and return clear, actionable feedback on:
  • Undergraduate: personal statements, supplemental essays, and activities lists
  • Graduate: statements of purpose and personal history statements
  • Medical (MD and MD/PhD): personal statements, Work and Activities entries, Most Meaningful Experiences, secondary essays, and MD/PhD-specific essays
  • Post-application: letters of intent and letters of continued interest
  • Help students prepare materials for their recommenders, such as CV and summaries of their work
  • Run mock interviews over Zoom and give students structured feedback
  • Follow American Study's review guidelines and quality standards
  • Keep the essay team updated on student progress and deadlines via communication channels: Whatsapp, email,...

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional editing and writing experience from a prestigious institute (US Top 20 preferable). A graduate degree or prior experience with university admissions is beneficial but not required. However, applicants without prior editing and writing experience are expected to have a minimum of three years of university admissions experience.
  • Proven ability to work independently while adhering to standards and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong technical proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom, along with a reliable high-speed internet connection.

Note: Most of our students are in Vietnam Time Zone (GMT+7). Please keep this in mind for scheduling and communication purposes.

If you are qualified, we will invite you to work as our Admission Reviewer with a chance of reallocation to Vietnam or working online with competitive salary!
