Shipping & Receiving Clerk, Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY
To receive and process all non-food merchandise and guest packages coming into the loading dock. To upload daily incoming packages from UPS and FedEx for company’s package receiving software. To issue or transfer all incoming packages via Houstonian Campus Package software. To handle all freight claims for any damaged deliveries. To process outgoing mail. To sort all incoming mail and packages. To receive any and all merchandise in the company p.o. Checkbook system. To properly document P.O. receiving and issuing to various departments. To call in and track shorts or damaged merchandise from vendors and to properly document status. To handle all outgoing shipments for guests or departments and process appropriate documentation. Assist storeroom clerks when needed. To maintain cleanliness and order of the receiving area as directed by the Purchasing Manager. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • To receive, issue and direct distribution of all non-food merchandise coming into the loading dock.
  • Properly receive, store, and issue all guest packages.
  • Responsible for outgoing mail and packages.
  • Call in returns, shorts or damage claims to vendors or freight companies.
  • Maintain purchasing receiving files and databases.
  • Must be able to move furniture and help with warehouse inventory, issuing & stocking.
  • To do other functions assigned by the Purchasing Manager or Director.
  • Must be able to use a general shipping company’s website. i.e. UPS and Fed Ex
  • Must be able to use Outlook, Excel and other unique computer programs.
  • Must be able to read and write fluently in English.
  • Must be accurate and detailed oriented.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must have ability to understand and follow directions, and perform job functions under limited supervision.
  • Perform functions for food storeroom when needed.
  • Assist with materials and furniture assembly and delivery
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • High School Diploma required.
  • 2-year hospitality or purchasing or warehouse/ receiving experience.
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance
  • Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Redstone rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities.
  • Employees who violate Redstone rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:
  • Physical Stamina: Physical requirements of this position include having the ability to: sit for extended periods of time, stand and walk, see and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids, enter data into computer, operate standard office equipment, use a telephone, hear and understand at normal levels and on the telephone, speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone, stoop, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis. Must be able to use hand truck.
  • Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
  • Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets. Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
  • Literacy: Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
  • Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
