Maintenance Assistant - Street Sweeping

This is a temporary position that works in the city’s right-of-way, assisting with street sweeping operations under general supervision. <br><strong>Supervisory Responsibilities: </strong><ul><li>None</li></ul><br><ul><li>Hand sweep or shovel debris and rubbish from right-of-way. </li><li>Maneuver class-C sweeping vehicle in light to heavy traffic, using skillful driving techniques. </li><li>Make minor adjustments and repairs in the field as necessary to properly utilize C-class sweeping equipment. </li><li>Maintain logs and records of work performed; maintain supply lists; report to supervisor regarding needed equipment. </li><li>Small equipment operations </li><li>Perform preventative maintenance procedures and minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment used. </li><li>Clean and care for tools and equipment. </li><li>Apply safe work practices at all times. </li><li>Follow predetermined cleaning schedule, keep records of areas maintained, and other conditions determined by supervisor. </li><li>Forward reports to supervisor on street cleaning conditions, i.e., additional areas needing hand sweep, abandoned vehicles or materials in streets. • Deposit refuse piles at specified locations and properly barricade as necessary. </li><li>Perform daily equipment check. </li><li>Respond to emergency and special street cleaning needs as required. </li><li>Remove hazards from the roadway and other public rights-of-way. </li><li>Maintain and repair public right-of-way including trash pick-up and removal and weed abatement. </li><li>Recycled items collection and storage. </li><li>Operate and maintain light equipment in public right-of-way and City property. </li><li>Operation of forklift.</li><li>Collection and handling of anti-freeze, batteries, oil, and paint (ABOP).</li><li>Landscape Maintenance. </li><li>Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service. </li><li>Operate power equipment such as weed whips, and gas blowers. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned.</li></ul><strong><em>The duties listed above are not intended to be all-inclusive.  An employee may also perform other related duties as assigned by their immediate supervisor.  This position is considered (non-exempt)</em></strong><undefined><strong>Required Skills: </strong></undefined><ul><li><undefined>Good communication skills</undefined></li><li><undefined>Time management </undefined></li><li><undefined>Provide excellent customer service to citizens and staff.</undefined></li><li><undefined>Mechanical and organizational skills</undefined></li><li><undefined>Current valid driver’s license </undefined></li></ul><undefined><strong>Education and Experience: </strong></undefined><ul><li><undefined>Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance.</undefined></li><li><undefined>Currently enrolled in a college, university, or trade school, desirable. </undefined></li><li><undefined>Certifications in Traffic Control Management, Concrete, Asphalt, Signs and Markings, HVAC, or Pesticide Applicators, desirable.<br></undefined></li></ul><p><strong>Core Competencies:</strong></p><ul type="disc" style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Problem Solving – Analytically and logically evaluating information</li><li>Learning Agility – Seeking learning opportunities and applying the lessons to work</li><li>Handling Stress – Maintaining emotional stability and self-control under pressure, challenge, or adversity</li><li>Professional Integrity & Ethics – Displaying honesty, adherence to principles, and personal accountability</li><li>Safety Focus – Showing Vigilance and care in identifying and addressing health risks and safety hazards</li><li>Customer Focus – Attending to the Needs and expectations of customers</li><li>Informing – Proactively obtaining and sharing information</li><li>Teamwork – Collaborating with others to achieve shared goals</li><li>Valuing Diversity – Appreciating the benefits of varied backgrounds and cultures in the workplace</li><li>Allocating Resources – Prioritizing the use of fiscal and material resources to maximize organizational effectiveness</li></ul><p><strong>Guiding Principles</strong></p><ol start="1" type="1" style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Put people first.</li><li>Be visionary.</li><li>Be an ambassador for Lancaster.</li><li>Be Fiscally Responsible.</li><li>Be Creative.</li><li>Always Improving.</li><li>Be Adaptable and Resilient.</li></ol><p><strong>Essential Physical Requirements:</strong></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Ascend/Descend stairs/ladders/balance (frequent)  </li><li>Position self to bend or twist (frequent)   </li><li>To move, transport, position items up to 75 lbs.
