Lead Software Engineer- iOS

Company Overview

Docusign brings agreements to life. Over 1.5 million customers and more than a billion people in over 180 countries use Docusign solutions to accelerate the process of doing business and simplify people’s lives. With intelligent agreement management, Docusign unleashes business-critical data that is trapped inside of documents. Until now, these were disconnected from business systems of record, costing businesses time, money, and opportunity. Using Docusign’s Intelligent Agreement Management platform, companies can create, commit, and manage agreements with solutions created by the #1 company in e-signature and contract lifecycle management (CLM).

What you'll do

Docusign's Mobile Engineering team builds and operates complex solutions for global business challenges that cross cultures, legal jurisdictions, and impact millions of businesses every day. We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer (P5) to be at the forefront of driving technical design, feature implementation, and ongoing evolution for our native iOS applications and customer-facing iOS SDKs. Our iOS SDKs empower enterprise customers and third-party developers to seamlessly integrate Docusign's Intelligent Agreement Management platform directly into their own mobile applications. In this role, you will act as a primary technical authority, balancing hands-on architecture and high-performance Swift development with cross-team leadership. You will work closely with Product, Design, QA, and backend platform teams, while occasionally engaging with enterprise partners to ensure our SDKs and native app experiences are secure, performant, and intuitive to integrate.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to Senior Director, Engineering.

Responsibility

  • Drive the end-to-end architectural vision, API design, and implementation for native iOS applications and developer-facing iOS SDKs

  • Write clean, modular, and well-tested Swift code, creating robust public API interfaces and XCFrameworks for enterprise integration

  • Set high standards for code quality, conducting thorough code reviews and establishing best practices across testing, modularity, and security

  • Partner with Product, Design, QA, and backend engineering to ensure mobile features align with platform APIs and enterprise scalability requirements

  • Collaborate with enterprise developer partners to understand integration requirements, collect feedback, and ensure smooth SDK adoption

  • Mentor and coach engineers across the team, elevating technical capability and fostering a culture of continuous learning

  • Proactively identify opportunities to optimize build pipelines, continuous integration, testing automation, and release speed

  • Stay ahead of Apple platform developments, WWDC updates, and iOS trends, adopting new technologies where they deliver clear value

Job Designation

Positions at Docusign are assigned a job designation of either In Office, Hybrid or Remote and are specific to the role/job. Preferred job designations are not guaranteed when changing positions within Docusign. Docusign reserves the right to change a position's job designation depending on business needs and as permitted by local law.

What you bring

Basic

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience in cloud, SaaS, or enterprise software environments

  • 5+ years specifically building production native iOS applications and public or internal iOS SDKs backed by cloud APIs

  • 3+ years of deep, hands-on experience with Swift (along with working knowledge of Objective-C for legacy codebase interoperability)

  • Demonstrated experience designing clean, maintainable SDK APIs, modular architectures, and managing library distribution (such as Swift Package Manager and CocoaPods)

  • Proven track record of mentoring engineers and leading complex technical initiatives across cross-functional teams

Preferred

  • M.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field

  • Experience managing binary framework packaging (XCFrameworks), semantic versioning, and SDK deprecation cycles

  • Deep knowledge of modern iOS frameworks, Swift Concurrency, memory management, and security protocols (OAuth, SSO, and data encryption at rest)

  • Familiarity with Android development principles or cross-platform SDK design considerations

  • Active contributions to open-source iOS libraries, developer blog posts, or tech community speaking engagements

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?
