About Bungie Research
Bungie Research conducts playtests, interviews, focus groups, and other studies to help teams create better player experiences. We are seeking Research Student Moderators to support study execution and qualitative research analysis.
About the Role
As a Research Student Moderator, you will support Bungie Research studies by assisting with participant sessions, documenting observations, identifying themes in qualitative data, and helping the research team deliver clear, timely findings. This is a hands-on learning opportunity for someone interested in user research, games research, psychology, human-computer interaction, analytics, or a related field.
The role is primarily intended to provide onsite moderation support for in-person sessions in the greater Seattle area. Depending on experience and study needs, there may also be opportunities to conduct focus groups or interviews with guidance from the research team.
Responsibilities
- Take detailed, accurate notes during research sessions.
- Review and code session recordings, notes, and transcripts to identify themes and patterns.
- Review and code open-ended survey responses to identify themes and patterns.
- Assist with research reports and other study deliverables.
- Help prepare onsite research spaces, including PC stations, props, printed materials, and participant name tags.
- Respond to and quickly resolve routine technical issues during study setup and execution, escalating issues when needed.
- Maintain a respectful, professional, neutral, and welcoming environment for participants.
- When assigned and appropriately supported, conduct focus groups or interviews while ensuring all participants are heard and the discussion remains on topic.
- Protect confidential information related to research studies, participants, team members, and Bungie projects.
- Attend scheduled shifts and meetings reliably, communicate in advance about conflicts, and incorporate feedback from researchers and program coordinators.
Qualifications
- Coursework, project experience, or professional experience related to user research, qualitative research, research moderation, psychology, human-computer interaction, analytics, game design, or a related field.
- Familiarity with research methodologies and qualitative research practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to learn and apply a large amount of project information in a short period of time.
- Demonstrated respect for confidentiality and sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
- Ability to work onsite for in-person research sessions in the greater Seattle area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in human-computer interaction, psychology, analytics, game design, or a related field.
- One to two years of experience in research moderation, qualitative research, or a similar area.
- Experience with coursework or personal projects related to user research.
- Interest in or passion for games.
- Experience facilitating discussions, interviews, focus groups, or playtests.
